Exploring
the Complexity The
previous section did not differentiate between a 15 year-old gamer from a
50 year-old gamer. Clearly, age should matter. What if we looked at a
13-16 year-old group and a 30-36 year old group separately and did the
same correlations? What we would notice is that we can draw different
personality correlations depending on age. I split the subjects into 7 age
cohorts according to their age. Each cohort has about 40 subjects and has
on average about a 3 year range. I’ll
go over the FPS section with
you and from there you should have the intuition to decipher the other 5
factors on your own. Again, it would take too many words to explain each
factor thoroughly. FPS
– Age
We
see that teenagers who play FPS games tend to score high on agreeableness.
They are perceived as very warm and friendly people. In the 20-23 range,
FPS gamers score high on Extraversion and the Sensing/Perceiving scale.
They tend to be outgoing, active, and spontaneous. Gamers who do not like
FPS games tend to be more reserved and organized. As we get into the 24-26
range, FPS gamers score high on Neuroticism. They tend to have mood swings
and often feel depressed. Above this age range, we cannot draw any
correlations. The
story has gotten much more complex from the previous section. Not only do
different personalities find different games appealing, but this changes
depending on a gamer’s age. TBS
